It s common knowledge that these stories were partly inspired by Japanese films and design. It only made sense that in returning these characters to an Ukiyo-e style, I also pay homage to another obvious source of inspiration: Lone Wolf and Cub . It was also a lot of fun interpreting this sci-fi fantasy world through the lens of Japanese steampunk, which isn t actually a thing, but I enjoy pretending it is.

The top caption says 逃去狼, which translates to Wolf on the Run .

The bottom caption says 誰扶誰被扶者不可辨, which roughly means It s hard to say who is rescuing whom…
